PICTURE ME ROLLIN’

Dylan Christopher is a 23-year old with a mission… He is riding his bicycle across the country, and documenting the entire voyage.

Based on a belief that life should be fun, passions should be pursued, and that there is only now; his travels will chronicle the nation’s opinion of these beliefs while promoting a sustainable, healthy, form of transportation. And to share his message and travels, Dylan is creating a documentary of his footage, photos, and stories as he rides his bike across the United States (hence the camera mounted on his helmet!).

Dylan’s route starts in San Francisco, Ca, and traverses from the west coast to the east, via San Diego, Arizona, Texas, New Orleans, and many other stops along the way, all the while, finishing in New York City. He will be visiting Apache reservations in San Carlos, a Navajo reservation in Window Rock, and hopes to experience all the beauty that the US has to offer along the way.

We caught up with Dylan on his way from San Fransico to San Diego to wish him well, and I snapped a couple of photos.

As an instructor for Elemental Awareness at the Element YMCA Skate Camp, the EA family have come together to sponsor Dylan’s adventure. Dylan welcomes anyone interested in getting involved, whether it be donations, providing a couch to sleep on along his journey, or sharing of useful information… If you’d like to help out in anyway possible, please contact him here.

Check out Dylan’s Website Picture Me Rollin’ for more details.

Be safe Dylan, and have fun! We’ll be watching as your travels unfold.

MR BIG SUR SCHOLARSHIP

With Skate Camp season around the corner, I’ve been scouting for a lucky kid to receive a scholarship to the Element YMCA Skate Camp with the funds raised by the Mr Big Sur event in December last year… And I found the winner! Her name is Victoria Ruesga, and she is 13yrs old.

I first saw Victoria compete at the Los Angeles, Make It Count event last year, and then again at the Santa Ana contest this year. Both times, her passion and talent for skateboarding caught my eye. She is definitely destined for big things.

Congratulations to Victoria for being so awesome! You get an all expenses paid  trip up to Element YMCA Skate Camp and a week among the beautiful Sequoia trees.

A very special thank you to all the Element Advocates that donated your time and talents to give a kid an experience of a lifetime… Brooke Reidt, Chad Eaton, Chad Muska, Juliana Neufeld, Matt Irving, Mike Kershnar, Miya Ando and Todd Francis, you guys rock.

Also special shout out to Elemental Awareness for all the awesome things you guys do for the local communities and kids. It’s what you guys do every day that inspired this exhibition. So, thank you.

Also, check out this video I found of Victoria Ruesga skating at the North Hollywood Skate Plaza – Victoria Ruesga At North Hollywood Plaza.  It’s so rad!

MR BIG SUR SEED PODS BY TODD FRANCIS

Todd Francis

On December 2nd, I  curated an exhibition called “Mr Big Sur”. It was a charity event to raise money for Elemental Awareness, who help send underprivileged kids to Element YMCA Skate Camp in 2011.

Inspired by the Sequoia Trees at Skate Camp, I created a huge tree installation called “Mr Big Sur”. Element Advocates Brooke Reidt, Bunny, Chad Eaton, Chad Muska, Juliana Neufeld, Matt Irving, Mike Kershnar, Miya Ando, and Todd Francis kindly donated their creative talents to make Seed Pod ornaments that were hung from Mr Big Sur.

The Mr Big Sur Seed Pod ornaments were then sold to raise money for Elemental Awareness, and ultimately helping send underprivileged kids to Skate Camp.

Check out photos from the opening night here!

The mission of Elemental Awareness is to positively transform lives through their love of skateboarding. Programs are aimed to promote social awareness, environmental responsibility, and encourage a healthy, active lifestyle. For more information visit elementalawareness.org

I documented all the artist Seed Pods so that everyone would get the chance to see them. This is the series that Todd Francis kindly made for the event. Check out more of his work here!
