My husband, Kirk Dianda shot and edited this beautiful piece called “Respect your Roots”. It celebrates 30 years of skateboarding photography through the lens of iconic skate photographer Skin Phillips, with the release of a special edition shoe. Here’s a photo I shot of Skin looking through his incredible archives of slide film after we shot his interview at his home in Southern California.
Check out the new DC Shoes commercial for The Trase, created and directed by the handsome Kirk Dianda. We shot this project in studio over the span of a week with an amazing team and an arsenal of dream cameras. I have to say it’s one of the most fun and messy shoots I’ve ever been on. A big thank you to Ryan Young for your camera expertise, EJ for being the best Producer we’ve had the chance to work with, Deven Stephens for being down to create all these incredible visuals, and everyone else that made this happen.
Here are some behind the scenes photos I shot while on set.
Paul Schmitt is one of those people that lives and breaths creativity. When you ask him about a project he’s working on, his whole face lights up with an infectious smile. Here is a little peek into a day in the workshop with Paul creating his highly sort after masterpieces.
Ray Barbee is one of the most gentle men you will ever meet. Under his quiet facade, you will uncover a passion for everything creative. This man can play music directly from his soul, skate like no other, and photograph images that capture the true persona of the person underneath… Watching Ray direct his creativity on a skateboard, through his guitar, and behind the lens will most definitely blow your mind.
Kirk and I had the chance to spend a day with Ray playing music, skating the neighborhood, and developing in the dark room as he processed endless rolls of film from past travels and explorations.
Check out the video created by the handsome Kirk Dianda, and my images and footage from the shoot below.
Earlier this year Oakley sent us to Australia to shoot Ryan Sheckler’s commercial for their Beyond Reason campaign. While out there, we documented the trip for an online article for the newly re-launched One Icon site and interactive platform. The feature Fear & Loathing in Australia exposes a trip down under, starring Curren Caples, Eric Koston, Rune Glifberg, and Ryan Sheckler. With three RED cameras manned by Kirk Dianda, Eric Brag and Tim (not related to Steve) Irwin, along with photographer and skateboard superstar, Arto Saari, and myself to shoot photos, we captured all the mischief that went down.
Deep up in the Hollywood Hills, among the rich and famous, dwells a creative mastermind by the name of Chad Muska. He’s been in the limelight of the skate, fashion, music and art scene since the mid 90s. Chad’s energy and creativity is infectious, and I love any chance to work with this amazing creature.
Here is a series of images I shot for SHELTERBLACK while Kirk and I were visiting Chad in his West Coast residence.
